Here we are! Lesson #1 from the new website MandoMike, where I will be publishing a free lesson every month.... as with all of the lessons, I have split it into 3 levels, and there are accompanying videos linked into this blog post and also over on my YouTube channel.
For the beginner lesson, we're going to look at the basic 2 octave A Scale using both your ring finger and little finger to reach the 6th Frets. We'll then move onto playing the tune 'Black Eyed Suzie' in the key of A. The lesson can be downloaded here and the videos are linked in the text above.
One of my favourite tunes at the moment is called 'Frank's Reel', written by John McCusker, so I thought I'd start these monthly lessons with this great tune. The lesson can be downloaded here, and the corresponding video is here.
For our advanced players, we're also going to look at 'Frank's Reel', but we're going to do 3 versions of it. The first is the main melody up to speed, then we'll add some ornamentations to make it sound a bit more like a Scottish musician would play it ... then, the final version is a 'cross-picking' version of the melody so we can get some of those notes really ringing out. The lesson can be downloaded here and the corresponding video is here.
If you have any questions, or any problems with accessing the lessons or the videos, please drop me a message via the contact page. This is all new to me as well so there will be some bugs along the way.
If you've enjoyed the lessons and want something more specific to you, head over to the 'shop' page where there are several options to choose from. If you don't need anything further but want to make a small donations, you can do that via the link at the top of the shop page.
See you next month!
