9) Jan '19: Triplets, Double Stops & Cripple Creek

Updated: Feb 7

Happy New Year! I hope this blog finds you well, here we are with lesson #9 of the 'Free Monthly Lessons' published via www.mandomike.com. This is what is available in the lessons this month:

For the beginner lesson, I want to show you a standard Bluegrass tune - Cripple Creek. I'll show you two versions; the first is the basic melody, and then the second is a slightly harder version. I get a lot of questions on how to progress from beginner to intermediate and lessons like this should hopefully show you the way. The lesson pdf can be downloaded here and the corresponding video is here.

For the intermediate lesson, I want to start looking at Double Stops. It is a topic I get asked to cover quite a lot and this lesson is just the starting point. We'll start in the key of G and add some double stops to the standard tune Cripple Creek. The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here, and the corresponding video is here.

For the advanced lesson, I want to discuss playing triplets on the mandolin - specifically what the right hand should be doing when the tune is in 4/4 or derivations of 4 (3/4, 7/4 etc). The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here and the corresponding video is here.

These lessons are completely free and I intend to try to keep them that way... but this is quite a time consuming exercise for me so if you are enjoying the lessons, please do consider making a donation to MandoMike via the link at the bottom of the homepage

I have been locked away over the festive period working on some updates to the MandoMike website and other exciting announcements. I'll be sending an email out later this month with further info so keep an eye out for that.

If you have any questions, or any problems with accessing the lessons or the videos, please just in touch via the contact page.

See you next month! Hope you enjoy the lesson :) Mando Mike
