23) March 2020: Bach Duet & Slides

Hello MandoMike subscriber! I am excited to be bringing you the Free Monthly Lessons for March 2020. I am really pleased with how the lessons have come out this month and I think they all have something in them to challenge any mandolin player! Here's a bit more info on what I have in store for you all for this month

Beginner & Intermediate - Bach Duet

For the Beginner & Intermediate lesson, I want to give you a break from theory and technique and just show you one of my favourite tunes. This is a Minuet by J.S. Bach and is a gorgeous duet for 2 mandolins. In the lesson, we'll focus on the main melody, but I want you to try both parts so you can see and hear how it works as a duet. The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here, and the corresponding video is here.

Advanced - Slides on the Mandolin

For the Advanced lesson, I want to have a look at how we play slides properly. A lot of people think slides are fairly straightforward, but it actually requires a some degree of thought, especially for the right hand. We'll look at the theory using scales, and then use a break to The Old Home Place by the Dillards as an example. The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here and the corresponding video is here.

These lessons are completely free and I intend to try to keep them that way... but this is quite a time consuming exercise … if you are enjoying the lessons, please do consider making a donation to MandoMike via the link at the bottom of the homepage … or go and purchase my latest PDF workbook .

If you have any questions, or any problems with accessing the lessons or the videos, please just hit 'reply' on this email. For anyone new to the website, all previous Free Lessons are still available here :-)

See you next month! Hope you enjoy the lesson :) Mando Mike
