Hello Mando player! I hope this blog post finds you well, I am excited to be bringing you lesson #18 of the 'Free Monthly Lessons'. I've put a bit of extra effort in to the lessons this month and I'm really pleased with how they have come out. They both might take you a little longer than normal to master, but will be worth it in the end! Before we dive in to the lessons, I'd just like to remind you all that I have released a new PDF workbook. It's a full 40-odd page look at everything to do with your Right Hand technique, inspired by the time I broke my left hand in a daft party game. Please do consider purchasing it as it is the best way to support MandoMike and help me keep the website running, plus you get something in return. Thanks to everyone who has purchased the book so far! Here's a bit more info on what I have in store for you all for this month:
Beginner & Intermediate - Soldier's Joy & Writing Harmony Parts
For the Beginner & Intermediate lesson, , I want to look at the standard fiddle tune Soldier's Joy. Beginners should just focus on learning the melody, but for you intermediate players, we'll have a look at the theory behind writing harmony parts and I'll show you an example part, it's a tricky one! The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here, and the corresponding video is here.
Advanced - Nao Me Toques
For the Advanced lesson, I want to show you how to play a brilliant Brazilian Choro tune called 'Nao Me Toques'. I was taught this by Mike Marshall in a workshop back in 2008 and I'm really happy to be passing it on to all you lovely mandolin players. It's a tricky tune and requires some thought with the left hand, which I'll walk you through and show you how I play the tune. The lesson worksheet can be downloaded here and the corresponding video is here.
These lessons are completely free and I intend to try to keep them that way... but this is quite a time consuming exercise … if you are enjoying the lessons, please do consider making a donation to MandoMike via the link at the bottom of the homepage … or go and purchase my latest PDF workbook .
If you have any questions, or any problems with accessing the lessons or the videos, please just hit 'reply' on this email. For anyone new to the website, all previous Free Lessons are still available here :-)
See you next month! Hope you enjoy the lesson :) Mando Mike
